HOW CITIES LIVE IN COVID-19: UNECE SEMINAR

The coronavirus pandemic has disrupted the normal way of life of hundreds of millions of people who live in different parts of the world. But most of all, the impact of the crisis has affected the world's cities. In order to look into the experience of municipalities in the context of COVID-19, the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) organized a global thematic seminar.

IMG 9494On the Ukrainian side, the participants of the review of the relevant world practices were the Chairman of the Board of the State Youth Housing Serhiy Komnatny and the Deputy Mayor of Kharkiv Mykhaylo Fateyev. This choice is not accidental. It is very Kharkiv which is one of the cities in the global world, the experience of functioning of which during the pandemic has become the subject of study done by international experts. Another important issue is the affordability of housing and in general the complex of housing issues in the context of the socio-economic crisis.

During the event, practical cases of the city authorities were considered. A dialogue and exchange of experience of representatives of different states and experts took place. They talked about the lessons learned by cities and countries from the 2020 pandemic, and about approaches how to overcome the consequences of this disaster.

According to many experts, the risk of further deepening of the global socio-economic crisis as a result of the still unresolved problem of the virus remains relevant. In these circumstances, it is important to understand how quickly the world will be able to begin to overcome the most threatening systemic problems of all countries in recent decades, the scale of which we still cannot fully comprehend.
